Dam Removal
What's all the excitement about? Watch our eight minute video to learn about why dam removal has been such an exciting campaign in Wisconsin for both its flowing waters and residents.
Many years ago, a few people who loved rivers asked the question "do we really need so many dams?" and some big things started to happen. In the ensuing fifteen years, the River Alliance of Wisconsin asked that question a lot. It excited some people, angered others, ignited fierce debates, sparked innovative research, inspired local folks to get involved. Ultimately, that question has helped set rivers free.
Now we bring the benefit of fifteen years experience with dam removal to others who may be facing the question of what to do with an aging dam in their community. Peruse our extensive library of informational resources, photos and case studies. We share some of the lessons learned as a statewide group engaging in the campaign of restoring rivers through dam removal.
And In our welcome video above, listen in as folks, in their own words, talk about how the River Alliance helped make Wisconsin a national leader in river restoration through dam removal. Most importantly, learn how you can make it happen in your community.
There's still a lot of work to be done to protect and restore our rivers and streams in this state, but River Alliance is proud of the role we've played in making river restoration through dam removal a viable option. After all, that's what we do: we save rivers.
