This year's River Champions are:
Representative Cory Mason: During his 6 years in office representing the 62nd Assembly District in the Wisconsin State Assembly, Rep. Mason has been a staunch defender of Wisconsin's natural resources. He serves as a member of the Joint Committee on Finance and the Assembly Committee on Natural Resources. Rep. Mason is a former River Alliance board member, member of the Root River Council, and serves on the Wisconsin Coastal Management Council.
Petenwell and Castle Rock Stewards (PACRS): Formed in 2007 by a diverse group of Adams and Juneau County land owners, business people, elected officials, and citizens, the PACRS have been the driving force in battling phosphorous pollution and other water quality issues on Lakes Petenwell and Castle Rock. Their successful "Pontoons and Politics" events have educated state officials and legislators about the serious effects phosphorous pollution has had on these vital central Wisconsin lakes.
Gordon Stevenson: Retired DNR official Gordon Stevenson spent 26 years as one of the Department's most dedicated water quality watchdogs, retiring as the Chief of Runoff Management in January 2011. Gordon was instrumental in development of policies and administrative codes for the State of Wisconsin involving both agricultural and urban nonpoint source water pollution. His vigilant oversight of the CAFO (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation) permitting process made sure that Wisconsin residents could trust that their groundwater was clean and untainted.
