Title:
Wisconsin Dells "On the Rocks" (SOLD OUT)
When:
05/18/2012
Category:
Make A Date With A River

Description

There’s the tourism phenomenon known as “Wisconsin Dells,” and then there’s the Dells of the Wisconsin River.  It is those iconic rock forms that were the original tourist attraction, but they’ve been overshadowed by water parks and go-kart tracks.

On May 18, come see “the real Wisconsin Dells” by kayak or canoe.  We’ll visit places that the Dells boat tours won’t take you. We’ve scheduled this at a time of year when boat traffic is minimal, and you can get a true feel for the geologic wonders of this underappreciated stretch of the Wisconsin River.  We’ll be joined by Debbie Kinder and Frank and Mariana Weinhold, local aficionados of the Dells who will provide insights about the geology, history and lore of the Upper Dells.

Where: We’ll put in at UW Extension’s Upham Woods, where the trip will begin and end.

When:  Friday, May 18, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Cost: $25

Details: Bring your own boat, paddles and PFD. Lunch will be provided.

Optional tour:  After the paddle, hike the fascinating Louis’ Bluff, the highest point above the Upper Dells, with its owners, Frank and Mariana Weinhold, who have protected the bluff with a conservation easement.

This event is sold out for this year!
